Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we hear most.

How is AcuityMaster licensed?

Each physical location requires a "location license." Each additional workstation at that location requires its own license. Free upgrades are included for 12 months from the purchase date.

Which Windows operating systems are supported?

Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10, and 11. A Macintosh-compatible version is coming in 2026.

What are the hardware requirements?

If you already have a computer in the exam lane for EMR/EHR, you can typically run AcuityMaster on the same machine. You'll need:

  • A video card with dual video output
  • A 20–24" LCD/LED monitor with HDMI (around $150)
  • For video fixation: a monitor with built-in speakers, or a 1080p model that carries audio over HDMI
Will AcuityMaster work with any monitor?

Yes — but be aware of the relationship between monitor size and patient distance. With unusually small monitors and short exam-lane distances, the 20/400 line may not display correctly. If you already own a 15" or 17" CRT/LCD, you'll be fine. If you're starting fresh, we recommend a 20–24" LED/LCD with HDMI or DVI.

What videos can I play for pediatric fixation?

Any video clip works. We recommend matching the clip's aspect ratio to your screen for the best appearance.

Can I use a remote control or foot pedal?

Yes. Any standard Windows wireless keyboard or wireless numeric keypad works. We also supply a USB foot pedal that toggles the pediatric video fixation hands-free.

Is there an all-in-one solution?

Yes. A refurbished all-in-one computer (Dell Optiplex AIO models 2330, 2320, or 9010) from the Dell Outlet is often under $350. Mount it on the wall either directly in front of the patient, or behind the patient with a mirror.

Does AcuityMaster meet visual acuity standards?

Yes. AcuityMaster meets ANSI Z80.21 (luminance 80–320 cd/m²), ISO 8596 (optotype contrast ≤15% of background), and standard color temperature requirements (2500K–7000K). All current monitors fall within these ranges.

Where can I find keyboard shortcuts?

The complete list of keyboard shortcuts is available on the Help & manuals page.
